Increasing our Listening and Communication Skills
(4th February)
Harmonious and life giving relationships at home, work or church can be created and enhanced by increasing our communication and listening skills. This teaching day is suitable for anyone wishing to improve their ability to communicate better but will be especially suitable for those involved in pastoral ministries. The day will consist of teaching, demonstrations and practical work.
Finding Jesus, Finding Healing (11th February)
As there are so many stories in the gospels of Jesus healing people of a huge variety of afflictions, surely we ought to be able to scrutinise his technique, learn from his methods and pray in a similar fashion? However a quick glance at some of these stories soon disproves this theory. Jesus seems to treat everyone differently. In fact the only common feature in all of these stories appears to be this: Jesus was there. So that is what we will be looking at on this day together – meeting with Jesus. How can we all learn to find Jesus in a real and personal way, and experience the healing that flows so naturally from an encounter with him? Many people have found this to be a life-changing experience.
Release the Captives (14th April)
A day examining the biblical and practical aspects
of Release Ministry. Some aspects to be considered include:
Jesus ministry.
Using the gifts of the Spirit.
Ministry do's and don'ts!
Compassion for the captive.
The paths to release and freedom.
Strongmen and soul ties.
Aftercare including building up in Christ
and maintaining freedom.
A practical and equipping time for those who have unanswered questions or desire to learn of this aspect
of Jesus ministry.
Listening, a Key Tool for Those in the Healing Ministry (19th May)
'Many people are looking for an ear that will listen. They may not find it readily because Christians are talking when they should be listening.' (Dietrich Bonhoeffer). This training day will explore the depths of listening and look at some of the skills involved in truly listening. Together we will explore what we mean by listening, how listening is crucial in the context of healing and who we need to listen to. We will also explore some of the barriers to listening. There will be opportunity for reflection, discussion, sharing and experiential learning. Henri Nouwen reminds us of why listening is such a key toll for those involved in Christian ministry – healing or any other kind. He writes, 'Listening is the highest form of hospitality…not to change people, but offering them space where change can take place.' When we actively listen barriers come down, masks are removed and we can be more real with each other. In addition when we 'listen to others with the ears of God' then 'we may speak to them the Word of God.' (Bonhoeffer)
Prayer Ministry after Services (21st September)
There are many models of prayer ministry and on this training day we will be looking at 'brief' prayer ministry suitable for the end of a church service, ministry within a service or ministering to someone who asks us for prayer when time is short. The questions which are often asked which we will explore such as 'What is prayer ministry, why do it and how do we do it?' The day will include practical demonstrations and participation so that we are equipped to deal more effectively when ministering to others.
In-depth Prayer Ministry (22nd September)
There are many models of prayer ministry and on this training day we will be looking at prayer ministry suitable for ministering 'in depth.' This is not about a few minutes after a service but spending an hour or longer with someone. There are many models used by churches-Sozo, Emmanuel, Restoring the Foundations, Living Free etc. This particular model is based upon the 'Circle of God's love'. It is a helpful way of looking at the broken patterns in our lives and how to minister into them. This day is very suitable for those involved in pastoral care or prayer ministry wanting to deepen their understanding and practice.
Overcoming Fear and Anxiety (5th October)
Fear and anxiety are a normal experience of life. However, sometimes our fears and anxieties become overwhelming and life restricting. They control us rather than us controlling them. This training day will explore reasons why we develop overwhelming fears and anxieties, what are they saying to us and how we can deal with these feelings. We will also look at strategies that help to lessen fear and anxiety.
Healing our Fear of Anger (6th October)
All our emotions are a gift from God and important for our well being. However anger seems to be the one emotion that causes us problems, particularly if we are Christians. There seems to be a prevalent, yet faulty teaching amongst Christians that being angry is wrong and even sinful. However scripture indicates that it is not wrong to be angry but it is what we do with our anger that can be wrong. Many of us have experienced dangerous or uncontrolled anger which has made us fearful of this emotion. The result being that we suppress or block anger. Anger has enormous energy which if used rightly can create life and health for us and others. However suppressed anger can lead to depression, fatigue and emotional or physical sickness. This training day will look at what the Bible has to say on the subject. We will also explore understanding anger from a spiritual, psychological and emotional perspective in order to bring healing to our past present and future. The sessions will include discovering safe ways of owning and expressing our feelings.
